Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has amended Motor Vehicle Rules 1969 framed under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 under which driving licenses have been transferred to the Provincial Transport Department.

According to the new development, Home & Tribal Affairs Department has transferred all the matters pertaining to driving licenses to the Transport Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and necessary instructions have been issued in this behalf to the Provincial Police Officer KP. The major amendments made in the Motor Vehicle Rules 1969 are the words Superintendent of Police of the district or Gazetted Police Officer have been substituted by the words Director Transport or any gazetted officer authorized by the competent authority.

Similarly, the words Assistant Inspector General of Police (Traffic) or any other person nominated by the competent authority in this behalf have been substituted by the words Director Transport or any Gazetted Officer authorized by the government.

The words inspector or sub inspector or sergeant of police authorized by the superintendent of police are replaced by motor vehicle examiner or any official authorized by the government.

Likewise, the words Inspector General of Police, West Pakistan have been substituted by the words director transport while deputy inspector general of police having jurisdiction in the district is replaced by secretary transport.
