
In order to create an atmosphere of mutual trust between tribal communities and the government, the political administration of South Waziristan is undertaking various development initiatives to ensure the provision of basic services to the tribal people.
A press release issued by the Directorate of Information Fata Secretariat stated that a significant portion of fertile agricultural land in Murghi Band village of Sararogha Tehsil, South Waziristan was eroded due to floods and the village remained susceptible to floods in the future. As such the political administration of South Waziristan prioritized a scheme for the construction of a 244 meter long flood protection wall to prevent further erosion of agricultural lands of this village in future. The project now benefits 1,984 residents in this village.
The press release adds that in order to demonstrate the government’s commitment to the well-being of the community and its efforts to strengthen the existing linkages between local communities and the government, the political administration has also prioritized the rehabilitation of an irrigation channel for the communities of Khan Zaghbeer Wam Ghurlama in Sararogha Tehsil of South Waziristan. This scheme helps to ensure sustainable livelihood opportunities to 2000 members of the farming community by providing irrigation facilities to 90 acres of their fertile agricultural lands.
The political administration also rehabilitated an irrigation channel for the communities of Bambar Kach and Ghashem Kach in the Serwekai Tehsil of South Waziristan.
This scheme benefits 1000 farmers from these two villages by ensuring irrigation facilities to 60 acres of their fertile agricultural land, the press note concludes.
