Shifa International Hospital (SIH) Islamabad, which is the country’s largest ISO certified 550-bedded tertiary care hospital, on Wednesday, opened Shifa Facilitation Center in Hayatabad to provide medical facilities to patients of Peshawar and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan.
Chief Executive Officer SIH Dr. Manzoor ul Haq Qazi formally inaugurated the center. The ceremony was participated by Director Strategic Planning SIH Mahmood Mirza, Director Liver Transplant Program SIH Dr. Najmul Hassan, SIH officials, consultants, doctors and notables from Peshawar and Islamabad.
Mahmood Mirza said Shifa Facilitation Center Peshawar would prove to be a central access point for patients coming to Shifa International Hospital Islamabad for treatment.
This center will offer health awareness services, laboratory pickup points for laboratory tests to be performed at Shifa’s central laboratory, appointment desk for consultants and transportation (pick-and-drop) services for patients from Peshawar to Islamabad. He said that Shifa had plans to start telemedicine services (through which patients in Peshawar will be checked live by doctors sitting in SIH, Islamabad) pharmacy, laboratory and weekly outpatient clinics for consultancy in Peshawar with Shifa’s American Board certified consultants in the future.
Dr. Qazi said Shifa strived to expand its outreach to various cities of the country to provide international standard medical care to maximum people of Pakistan. “This is evident with the fact that since its start in 1993 with only 30 beds, we have now 550 plus beds, a hospital in Faisalabad and pharmacies and laboratory pickup points in almost 30 cities.” We are committed to provide excellent and ethical medical care to people coming from all parts of the country and neighboring countries, he stated. Dr. Najmul Hassan gave a presentation on Shifa’s liver transplant program that is country’s first regular living donor liver transplant program.
He said Shifa has made history by starting liver transplant program for the first time in Pakistan. Before this patients had to go abroad for liver transplant but now Shifa has functional liver transplant center. “It is a unique opportunity for Pakistani patients as they can save time and money. Moreover, they get treatment while having their loved ones around,” he emphasized.
