A student was killed and two others sustained injuries when unidentified armed men attacked a private school with a hand grenade on Monday, police said. The armed men on motorbike threw the hand grenade at Iqra Public School in Charganokaly on Charsadda Road, killing one grade student Ali, and injuring two others, including Waqarullah, while the name of the other victim could not immediately ascertained.
The grenade landed near a water tap where children were washing their hands, senior police officer Tahir Ayub told AFP. “Three children were wounded in the blast, one of them died on way to the hospital,” Ayub added. “We received the body of a six-year-old child,” doctor Rahim Jan of the city’s Lady Reading Hospital said. The assailants managed to escape from the scene. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear, but terrorists oppose secular and mixed-gender schooling.
