
Provincial Minister for Information, Public Relations, Culture and Transport Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that provincial government has taken revolutionary steps to provide better transport facilities to the people of the province.
He said this while chairing an important meeting of Road Transport Board (RTB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday. The minister who is also the chairman of the board said that Transport Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took a number of steps to provide better transport facilities to the people of the province.
He also directed the concerned authorities to take necessary measures to improve the security and cleanliness of Peshawar Bus terminal.
The meeting beside reviewing in detail the implementation status of the decisions taken in the last meeting of the board, discussed matters related to the extension of the lease period of 10 Kanal land of Peshawar Bus Terminal, creation of a post of an administrator on contract basis to run the affairs of the terminal, increasing the number of security guards at the terminal, initiating civil work in the terminal, expenditures and financial position of the board, and a number of important decision were taken in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport, Sikandar Qayum, Additional Secretary Law Muhammad Arif Khattak, Deputy Secretary Finance Nadir Rana and other concerned quarters. The meeting unanimously approved the expenditures of the board with effect from April 2012 to November 2012 and decided to regularize the budget of the board and prepare it on the basis of financial year.
The meeting also approved the creation of a post of a full time administrator to run the affair of the bus terminal initially for the period of six months. It decided to award the contract of the terminal through open auction for the remaining period of the year. It also decided to hire a private consultant for the remaining period of the year. It also decided to hire a private consultant to initiate in the bus terminal.
The meeting of the board approved to extend the lease period of 10 kanal land of the terminal. Installation of water filtration plant, walk through gates and electronic board and appointment of fifteen more security guards, a tube well operator, plumber and other necessary staff in the terminal was also approved in the meeting.
