
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah has said that the services institutions especially in the health sector; offering quality healthcare facilities can significantly contribute not only to shoulder the responsibility within the country but also in image building of the nation abroad.
There is also need to lighten the burden of healthcare on deserving patients and providing solace and comfort to the part of society that is not capable of meeting the high cost of quality healthcare, he added.
Addressing a seminar on Radiation Oncology Services at the North West General Hospital and Research Centre; an institution working in the private sector at Hayatabad on Saturday, as the chief guest, the Governor appreciated the management of the institution for having established an Endowment Fund to assist the financially handicapped patients of serious nature.
The Governor also formally inaugurated Linear Accelerator; a modern diagnostic machine, for cancer patients which has been installed at the hospital at the cost of Rs.250 millions by its management.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Chief Executive of the hospital welcomed the governor and highlighted the achievements and future development plans of the institution and said that they have provided financial assistance to the tune of almost Rs 70 million to the deserving patients during the last about two years.
Appreciating the commissioning of the Linear Accelerator (LINAC) in the private sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Governor said, it will indeed go a long way in ameliorating the difficulties of cancer patients and their families who had no other alternative but to wait for months for their turn to receive the service at IRNUM.
“I am sure today’s inauguration of the service in North West General Hospital will be a great relief to the patients and also will help shorten the waiting period at IRNUM.
Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah also noted the future development plan of the institution; encompassing another 300 bedded hospital; a medical school, a nursing college and a centre of excellence for paramedic studies and congratulated its management for the courageous initiative.
Installation of this highly sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, he remarked, is indeed a leap forward, as far as health care system is concerned which also reflects the visionary approach of the management and he wished the institution every success. The Governor also appreciated the fraternity of the doctors for their spirit in successfully running the modern health institution and said the provision of direct employment to 1400 persons also a good service.
Later on the Governor formally inaugurated the Linear Accelerator machine and also inspected the gamma camera, CT scan and other equipments installed in the hospital.
