Intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for Peshawar Region which were scheduled to be held today (27th December) have been delayed once again for one day. Now the elections will be held on Friday (December 28). According to party’s website the elections were delayed on some technical grounds. “The Central Election Commission (CEC), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced that, because of some technical reasons, elections in Peshawar Region scheduled for Thursday, December 27 are being postponed by one more day.
The elections will now be held on Friday, December 28,” the website said.
However, according to a party insider the main reason of the delay was reservations of the party’s provincial elections commission on setting election booths due to security reasons.
“The Provincial Election Commission, headed by renowned lawyer and former President Supreme Court Bar Association Qazi Anwar, had decided to hold the elections only through mobile balloting and decided not to set up polling booths due to prevailing law and order situation in the province especially Peshawar,” the source said.
The source further said that when Qazi Anwer contacted the central leadership of the party in order to convey the message of not setting up polling booths, the central leadership including party’s Chief Election Commissioner Hamid Khan had rejected the idea completely and directed Qazi Anwer follow the plan originally given by the central election commission.
Now, on Wednesday, the polling staff will be given training and for that matter the election has been delayed, the source said.
The PTI elections on UC level are to be held in Peshawar Regions which include Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda and Nowshera.
Meanwhile, the source further said that a section of party workers were feeling annoyed due to continuous delay in holding intra-party elections due to which it had lost its importance especially in the media.
Now, the PTI voters can cast their votes through their mobile phones or can cast their votes at the polling booths from 9 am to 5 pm on Friday.
Those who want to cast their vote through mobiles will have to send the their vote to 021-111786224 or 021-111786725.
