
Gulbahar is said to be the first residential colony that was built in Peshawar. There was a time when it was considered as the posh residential area of the provincial capital. Today it is turned into a filthy, dirty and unmovable area. The area has become a headache for pedestrians, transporters and traders because of slow pace of work on the new drainage system that was started during the tenure of the present ANP led government.
Hamid Khan of Sheikhabad locality of Gulbahar, a student of second year, expressing displeasure over the delay in completion of the drainage system said it has multiplied the miseries of residents of the area. He criticized the authorities concerned for creating troubles for students and transporters.
The residents of the area said they were surprised to see that no one from the high ups of the department concerned visit the area to look the work and take note of the situation. 60 year-old Gul Rehman said the residents of the area have registered complaints with authorities however no action is taken so far over the complaints.
He said it also leaves bad impact on the people’s health as the dust has increased in the area and whenever it rains pedestrians and the motorists have to pass thrown the mud which creates more problems for them.
Daud Shah General Secretary Anjuman-e-Tajaran Gulbahar said a number of times women and elderly become injured after falling down due to the construction work and slippery roads that becomes muddy during the rains. He blamed the contractors for leaving the work incomplete on one place and starting the work on the same time to another place on the project.
Public Relation Officer of Peshawar District Government when contacted said the project is not under the district administration rather it was Peshawar Development Authority who are carrying out the project.
Director Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Dawood Khan when contacted for his comments over issue said they realize that people were confronting problems because of slow pace of construction work however construction of the project aimed to facilitate the residents of Gulbahar area, he added.
He claimed at least 90% of construction work was completed while the remaining 10% would be completed in the shortest possible time.
The project worth of Rs50 million would be completed by the end of this year, Dawood said while adding the construction work over drainage system has been started from Ring Road would be ended in Gulbahar.
