
The Khyber Pakthunkhwa government has planned construction of state of the art gymnasium here in Hayatabad to provide quality sports facilities to the residents besides bolstering regional games in the province.
Official sources told APP on Monday that it was a locally funded project with initial allocation of Rs. 20million in the existing Annual Development Programme (ADP).
Similarly, Rs.6.529million would be spent in current fiscal year (CFY) on this gigantic project aimed to attract young generation to games.
The construction of gymnasium would help reduce pressure of players on Qayyum Stadium Peshawar, he added.
This would also encourage tribal people to get quality sports facilities in Hayatabad located near Khyber Agency.
Also, the government has planned reconstruction of the old pavilion at Qayyum Sports Complex Peshawar with a cost of Rs. 140 million.
This project has been included in Annual Development Programme (ADP) for current fiscal year and Rs.20 million would be spent in existing financial year. He said it was a locally funded project included in ADP on the request of sports lovers.
In addition to it, provision of hockey turf at sports complex, Mardan with initial allocation of Rs. 50 million for current fiscal year while Rs. 50 million was set aside for current financial year (CFY).
The rehabilitation of Kalabat Town Stadium, Haripur has also been planned that would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 20 million. The government would spend Rs. 240 million on these five new projects aimed at to bolster sports activities in Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
In order to encourage sports in Khyber Pakthunkhwa, he said every primary school, college and university should have dedicated fields, grounds, tables and other requisite sports equipment to encourage young students to volunteer, step-up and take part in group activities related to sports.
The official while referring to the ongoing projects of construction of playground at Landi Arbab Peshawar, Khan Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charssada district, purchase of fitness equipments and sports gears, provision of additional sports facilities in sports complex Mardan and construction of playground at Hoti Mardan, rehabilitation of Mansehra stadium and repair of Tehmas Khan Football stadium Peshawar would greatly help provide congenial atmosphere to youth of Khyber Pakthunkhwa to excel in sports related activities and earn name for themselves and the province.
