The Peshawar High Court has issued a formal order preventing law enforcement agencies from harassing Afghan refugees who possess valid Proof of Registration (PoR) cards, affirming that these individuals are legally allowed to reside in Pakistan until June 30, 2025.
In a detailed three-page ruling, Justice Waqar Ahmad stated that any act of harassment or coercion against PoR cardholders is unlawful. The court emphasized that these cardholders are under legal protection and have the right to remain in the country under current policies. It further noted that law enforcement agencies are obligated to respect this status.
During the court session, representatives from the Deputy Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Frontier Regions Division in Islamabad confirmed that the federal government has not decided to deport registered Afghan refugees holding PoR cards.
