
Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) Sunday asked government to take action against police sub-inspector Kishwar Khan of Gulburg police station for harassing and misbehaving with staff reporter of a national Urdu daily immediately, otherwise, the journalists threatened to launch a series of protest demonstrations across the province.
In a statement, the KhUJ while quoting Jamil Mohmand, staff reporter daily Nai Baat, Peshawar, said that he was on way to his office, when sub inspector Gulburg police station Kishwar Khan allegedly stopped him at super market harassed and misbehaved with him for no reason.
Besides using insulting and impolite words for journalist community, sub-inspector ordered policemen to beat and get him in police van forcefully. Upon resistance, he alleged sub-inspector threatened him of dire consequences, Mr. Jamil said. Meanwhile, journalists present at super market intervened and cold down the situation.
Strongly condemning police rude behavior with the reporter, KhUJ President Arshad Aziz Malak said that police had ever misbehaved with journalists, this ugly practice by police, must be stopped. He said that they would not remain silent on the issue and raise voice against it at all level.
Journalists’ community condemned police and asked government to take action against the above-mentioned police sub inspector forthwith otherwise, they would be left with option no other than to launch a series of protest demonstrations across the province and government would be responsible if any untoward incident happened in this connection.
