The district administration of Peshawar has taken action against profiteers in the food market. The authority arrested 65 vegetable and fruit vendors for violating the official price list.

The Special Squad

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar, Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh has created a special team to control and implement the official prices of commodities. This was done to control the growing food prices in the wake of an increased demand in the holy month of Ramzan. The team follows a daily procedure regarding the issuance of official prices.

As per the routine, the team visits the market on the daily basis to announce the official price list.

The Areas Under Inspection

In that regard, the district administration teams went to following areas;

  • Hayatabad,
  • Charsadda Road,
  • Dalazak Road,
  • Kohat Road,
  • City area,
  • University Road,
  • G.T. Road,
  • Gulbahar and Hashtnagri localities.

The squad found 65 vendors in the violation of the official price lists and arrested them.

It is pertinent to mention here that the price of almost every single commodity skyrockets just as Ramzan approaches. People started a three-day social media campaign to boycott food and poultry in response to the price hikes.
