The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to set up separate wards for transgender persons in all public hospitals in a bid to avoid discrimination and ease medical facilitation for the marginalised community.

Chief Minister Mehmood Khan issued a notification on Tuesday in this regard. According to the communique, the K-P CM called for immediate medical services to the transgender community in all government hospitals and other healthcare institutions in the province. It further added that all medical teaching institutions’ hospitals to reserve five beds for transgender persons – category A & B four beds and category C hospitals for three beds, respectively.

All medical superintendents, directors and district officers in the province have been directed to ensure the implementation of the order while sharing the updated status with the Directorate General Health Services.
